Quick Safety Tips

If You Are Still in the Relationship

  • Trust your instincts when something feels unsafe.

  • Stay aware of exits and safe spaces.

  • Keep essentials within reach (ID, keys, cash, medications).

  • Try to avoid rooms with weapons when tensions rise.

  • Use a safe device when searching for help or resources.

If You’re Planning to Leave

Leaving is often the most dangerous time. A plan can help keep you safe.

  • Tell one trusted person what is happening.

  • Create a code word to signal when you need help.

  • Prepare a small “go bag” with important documents and essentials.

  • Identify where you can go quickly: a shelter, trusted friend, or safe public place.

  • Gather copies of birth certificates, IDs, financial documents, and medical records.

If You Have Recently Left

  • Change all passwords (email, banking, social media, apps).

  • Turn off location tracking and sharing on your phone.

  • Contact a hotline or advocate to build a long-term safety plan.

  • Consider protective orders or legal steps, if safe to do so.

  • Seek support—counseling, survivor groups, or trusted friends/family.

Build a Personal Safety Plan

A personalized safety plan can help you stay protected through every stage.

Key Safety Plan Elements

  • Warning Signs: Identify what happens before things escalate.

  • Safe Locations: Rooms without weapons, or places you can exit easily.

  • Emergency Contacts: 3–5 people you can reach immediately.

  • Escape Routes: Doors, windows, and alternate exits.

  • Documents & Essentials: A checklist of items to take if you need to leave quickly.

  • Child & Pet Safety: Steps to keep them safe during an emergency.

  • Tech Safety: Turning off tracking, securing accounts, and avoiding monitored devices.

  • After-Leaving Plan: Shelters, financial steps, medical care, and emotional support.

Message from Miss Suzy Q

As an author and as a survivor,...

For 15 years, I lived in silence. I carried fear, shame, confusion, and the belief that my voice didn’t matter.

Today, I speak because I survived. And because no one should ever feel alone in their pain.

I didn’t write my books in hopes to be a millionaire. I wrote them for you,... for anyone living in fear, for anyone healing from trauma, and for anyone who needs to know that escape is possible and a peaceful life does exist. I needed to get my story out and into the hands of people who were where I once was. Feeling alone, hopeless and lost.

You deserve safety.
You deserve peace.
You deserve a life where your voice is heard and your heart is free.

You are not alone. Not now, not ever.
